"F. Stilsson left Astoria with express letters last Saturday at 11:00 A.M. He came overland and reached Corvallis this afternoon. He reports the steamer docked at the wharf, icebound. She arrived on the 4th. Her passengers are still there. The river is full of floating ice. There are large ice fields on the shoals between Astoria and Sand Island. The channels are clear below Astoria."
