Portland Flood On This Day In Oregon

On this day in 1890 Portland's Front and First Streets were inundated by the raging flood waters of the Willamette River. Row boats and skiffs navigated a good length of Front Street.

The Morrison Bridge, straining from the rampaging river, was closed to traffic by 11 A.M. and business halted as crowds gathered along the docks to observe the awesome torrent of water...one of the Willamette Valley's worst floods.
