newspaper boy On This Day In Oregon

On this day in 1846 Oregon's first newspaper The Oregon Spectator, which was also the first newspaper on the Pacific Coast, was pulled from the sticky type of a Washington hand press.

Printing offices were set up in Oregon City by a group of Willamette Valley settlers organized as the Oregon Printing Association. For nearly a decade that the Spectator was published, the fortnightly newspaper markedly influenced the political and cultural climate of the day.
