The first known theatrical performance in Oregon was presented on this day in 1846 by the crew of the British sloop, Modeste, anchored off Fort Vancouver. Settlers for miles up and down the Willamette Valley journeyed to see a pseudosophisticated play entitled, "Three Weeks of Marriage".
