On this day in 1893, the State Legislature created Lincoln County out of the Siletz Indian Reservation and the western part of Benton County. Toledo was eventually chosen as the county seat. The county was named for Abraham Lincoln but not until after a prolonged debate in which the names "Blaine" and "Bay" were strongly favored.
