On this day is 1917, the Oregon National Guard began mobilizing after the call was issued by President Wilson this evening. Recruitment will be stepped up and it is thought troops will be transferred to Fort Vancouver within a few days. Strained relations between the U.S. and Germany prompted President Wilson's call, and it appears that war becomes more imminent each day.
