1904 telephone On This Day In Oregon

"The Oakville Independent Telephone completed their line on the evening of March 22nd and on the 23rd eleven phones commenced ringing and for 16 hours everyone tried to talk and what others were saying at the same time, but after three days all become reconciled and now they only answer their own rings unless the company ring is sounded and that means all receivers down while someone plays a piece on the violin or organ. We all say: 'Hurrah for the Independent Telephone.'"
