On this day in 1905 the first Golden Rule Store featuring gaslights officially opened for business in Grants Pass. Measuring 25' x 100', the store carried "everything to wear for every member of the family." Founders of the store were F.S. Jones and Frank T. Washburn, both from Missouri and long-time close friends with J.C. Penny, also a Missourian. The store moved across the street into the old city hall and later occupied a new building on 6th and 'H' Streets.
