Ira Babcock On This Day In Oregon

On this day in 1844 the first Oregon general election was held to choose the officers of the Provisional Government.

Osborne Russell, Wm. J. Bailey and Peter G. Stewart were elected to the executive committee. Dr. Ira Babcock was chosen as supreme court judge, and Joseph Meek as sheriff. Eight members were elected to the legislature.
