Mt. Hood Forest On This Day In Oregon

On this day in 1874, Thomas H. Sherrard was born in Brooklyn, Michigan. After graduating from Yale and studying forestry at Harvard in 1898, he entered the U.S. Forest Service in 1905.

Beginning in 1908, Sherrard served as supervisor of the Oregon Forest, or Mt. Hood Forest as it was later called. During a career lasting into 1941, Thomas Sherrard was the first to develop the recreational resources of the northwest forests. In 1947 Sherrard Point on Larch Mountain, was named after him.
