On this day in 1911, Governor O.S. West returned to Salem after having personally captured Jess Hall, the convict who escaped from the State Home for the Feeble-Minded, where he had been serving as a trusty, just a week previously. Hall was returned to the penitentiary and was subsequently given inside work. Governor West led the search for the escaped man, who was captured near Corvallis, and accepted his surrender.
