On this day in 1874 the Circuit Court was occupied two days trying Jesse L. Adams and John Guess, charged with "capturing" a hog worth about "eight dollars". It took 24 jurymen, 28 witnesses, 8 lawyers, two bailiffs, clerk, judge, and other officers of the court to sift through the matter and find that the above named individuals were "not guilty." This eight dollar hog has cost somebody in the neighborhood of a thousand dollars.
