Charles Gable On This Day In Oregon

On this day in 1929 the St. Helens Mist reported that Bachelor Flat, three miles southwest of St. Helens in Columbia County, was named because of the presence of so many single men in the locality--but according to Charles Gable who settled there in 1880, he and five or six cronies who were also bachelors, got together one evening and he suggested the name Bachelor Flat which has stuck through the years.
