On this day in 1908 Josephine County was voted a "dry county" resulting in every saloon closing its doors for good at midnight. At the same time, citizens and newspapers in the county seat of Grants Pass were demanding that the town's streets be paved. Angered over the vote that prohibited the sales of alcohol, one member of the Grants Pass City Council refused to vote in favor of the street paving project. Because full council approval was necessary, the first street in Grants Pass didn't get paved until 1910.
