On this day in 1858 John L. Whitetaker was elected and inaugurated Oregon State Governor while George L. Curry was still in office as Provisional Governor. Oregon was not admitted to the Union until February 1859 and so for the intervening seven months, Oregon had two governors in office at the same time.
