Astor Column On This Day In Oregon

On this day in 1926 the Astor Column was dedicated in Astoria. The spiral monument is 125 feet tall upon which a frieze depicting Oregon history around Astoria is painted

The column was built with money from Vincent Astor and the Great Northern Railroad and was constructed in honor of Captain Robert Gray, discoverer of the Columbia River; Lewis and Clark; and John J. Astor, founder of the town of Astoria.
