Sunday baseball was not only frowned upon by the early settlers, but was discouraged by baseball teams as well. The following article was inserted by the Highland Baseball Club into the Oregon City Enterprise, August 3, 1887: "The practice of playing ball on Sunday is not only very immoral, but it disturbs the peace and quiet of the neighborhood when it is practiced...Names of club members will be erased from books if they use the grounds or any implements belonging to the club on Sunday."
