John J. Sellwood On This Day In Oregon

"Orders have been received by Captain John J. Sellwood, U.S.R. from the Western Department, U.S.A., San Francisco, starting Portland's New Provisional Ambulance Company on the first leg of a journey that will eventually land it 'somewhere in France'. The company, which comprises 119 of Oregon's finest young men, has been called into active service and will leave Portland Monday morning, August 27 for Camp Lewis, American Lake, Wash., under command of Captain Sellwood."
