"The industrial station at Blalock is well pleased with their experiments in the growing of tobacco, and from present indications it will only be a few years until this will be an important industry. "In 1864 while marching through Grand Ronde Valley, Col. Geo. B. Curry filled his pipe from tobacco grown here and well remembered the extraordinary strength it contained. If properly cultivated it might make a commercial article."
