Gustavius Hines On This Day In Oregon

"Sunday, the 7th. In the morning, the Calapooah, a small sail boat, came along side from shore, bringing vegetables and beef for the (brig) Chenamus. With her, I expected Kana, my Hawaiian, but he had absconded during the night, choosing rather to remain in Oregon than to go back to his native island."

Rev. Gustavius Hines recording his departure from the Oregon Territory to the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) on Sept. 7, 1845.
