On this day in 1924 the opening of the famed Pendleton Round-Up was accompanied by more excitement than usual, as a terrific gale struck and caused wild horses to become even wilder, famed riders to be unseated in short fashion, and bulldogging wild steers became impossible. A blind-folded horse leaped into the bleachers and a 60 foot tower from which movies were being filmed blew down. The attendance was 25,000 in a pouring rain.
