pioneer footbath On This Day In Oregon

In March 1832 Nathaniel Wyeth departed Boston and marched overland to Oregon reaching Fort Vancouver in late October of the same year. Wyeth's intent was to establish a commercial and agricultural company on the Columbia River, but when his shipment of supplies failed to reach Oregon, he decided to return to Massachusetts.

After a second overland trek, this time to the east, Wyeth arrived back in Cambridge, Mass. with two half-Indian guides on this day in 1833. Here he organized the Columbia River Trading Company to outfit a vessel that would sail around the horn and meet him on the Columbia River.
