On this day in 1846 news of the treaty signed on June 15th between the United States and Great Britain finally reached Oregonians, informing them that all land south of the 49th parallel was conceded to America. News of the Oregon boundary settlement was delivered by Captain Nathaniel Crosby, bar pilot and sailing master of the Bark Toulon. Captain Crosby came to Oregon from the east coast earlier in the year bringing with him a cargo of lumber used to build the first frame house in Portland. He was the great-grandfather of Bing Crosby.
