Abigail Scott Duniway On This Day In Oregon

On this day in 1912, after the men of Oregon voted in favor of a woman's right to vote, it became law by proclamation of Governor West.

Abigail Scott Duniway, the driving force behind the suffrage movement in Oregon, was asked by the governor to write the official proclamation, but poor health kept her from attending the official signing. The governor therefore went to her home in Portland and signed the bill in her presence.
