On this day in 1903 the Corvallis Gazette published an item that demonstrated the abundance of waterfowl in early Oregon. The article stated that a party of six men had killed 250 wild ducks in a day. The birds were sold at eight to twenty cents each and shipped to a Portland market. Such hunting parties were not uncommon until several species of ducks and geese were finally placed on a protected list.
