On this day in 1898 the first steam locomotive pulled into the eastern Oregon town of Moro at 5:30 PM. The tracks of the Columbia Southern were finally complete and there was a great celebration. Surrounded by wheatfields, Moro's new rail line meant a connection with the world of commerce and optimism for the town's economic future. That evening a dinner for the workers was given at the City Hotel.
