James Tichenor On This Day In Oregon

On this day in 1855 Curry County was formed by the Territorial Legislature. Taken from the southern end of Coos County, it was named in honor of Governor George Law Curry. Captain James Tichenor made an unsuccessful attempt to substitute the name Tichenor, but his motion was voted down. Due to the small population of Curry County, it was undecided where the county seat should be located. Among the choices: Ellensburg, Chitko & Port Orford.
