Sublimity College On This Day In Oregon

On this day in 1857 classes at Sublimity College, under the auspices of the United Brethren Church, began this day in 1857. Little is known of the college's history, other than it had to close its doors for a time during the Civil War because slavery dissension had become so intense.

The first teacher and president of the school was Milton Wright who reportedly opposed the belief that man would ever learn to fly. After a few years, Mr. Wright left the state and settled on the east coast where he fathered two sons, Orville and Wilbur.
