On this day in 1858 a meeting of Oregon educators took place in Portland, resulting in the formation of the Oregon State Education Association. Of particular significance was Episcopal Bishop Thomas Scott's resolution which suggested the consideration of "organizing all denominational colleges in connection with the state university" and called for the "establishment of a normal school for the training of teachers."
